Brampton Rental Listing Looking for THREE Tenants to Share 1 Bedroom for $550 each

A recent rental listing was shared on the advertising website Kijiji titled, “Shared furnish rooms for students. Available January 1, 2024.”

The listing has more than 20 images of a basement apartment which appears to have at least two bedrooms with three single beds in each of them. Other rooms in the unit have one queen-sized bed each. The listing also says there’s a room available on the upper level of the house as well.

“Looking for clean, decent, and respectful girls or boys to share fully furnished rooms in a fully furnished basement. Shared queen-size beds are $525 each. Separate single beds $550 each. 1 furnished bedroom on upper level with private washroom. 1 person $1200 or suitable for 2 brothers or friends to share $600 each,” the listing says.

The listing goes on to say that there is no parking or “full cooking available” and that “light cooking” and tiffin (a small meal) are preferred. Crazy what some rentals are squeezing in to get more out of their place, and what extent renters have to go to to find affordable housing.

The rentals are available starting on Jan. 1, 2024, and rent includes all utilities, laundry, high-speed internet and kitchen, washroom, and general cleaning supplies.

“The landlord will provide dishwashing liquid, hand soap, paper napkins, paper towels, sanitary wipes, and toilet paper. No extra expense for you, all included in your rent,” the listing says.

A user on X shared a picture of the listing Monday evening and said, “Housing here is garbage.” People have since been reacting to the listing online and are shocked about the rental situation in the province. Can you blame them?

“Paying $550 to sleep in a room with 2 other people is mind-boggling,” one X user said.

“This is insane smh. 3 people in one room,” another said.

“It’s crazy… if you can, move to cities outside the GTA,” one user added.

Another crazy rental listing comes after a realtor exposed a listing back in October where a Toronto resident was looking for a fellow female tenant to share her queen-sized bed for $900 a month.

This time, one resident posted a listing looking for a fellow female tenant who is willing to share her queen-sized bed for $900.

Just when you thought the Toronto rental market couldn’t get any worse, it did. Someone is trying to rent out a space in their queen-sized bed in a downtown condo for $900/mo. And the worst part is that someone is going to rent this…

On the other hand, look at some college dorm rooms and what they charge for them. Sometimes college double dorm rooms are no bigger than 150 square feet for two people and can cost upwards of 5,000 each per person for 4 months.

The realtor who exposed this listing is TikTok user Anya Ettinger (@aserealty) who has made a name for herself after going viral (on multiple occasions) for sharing just how bad the rental market has become in Toronto.

Look at a screenshot of the listing she showed:

That apartment doesn’t look big, and does the listing even come with the apartment or is it just the bed? Who knows.
